Rails or bars? Know the difference.

Factory roof rails run front to back. Roof bars—or crossbars—run side to side and form the load-bearing base for a roof box or bike carrier. “Roof rack” is often used for the complete system.

Do not buy from the vehicle name alone. Different trims of the same model can have different roof types.
01

Raised rails

Factory rails run front to back with a visible gap underneath. The bar feet clamp around the rails.

You can usually slide your fingers beneath the rail.

CRUZ Lane, Airo & Airo Dark available

02

Flush rails

Integrated rails sit directly against the roof with no open gap. They need a compatible, vehicle-specific foot kit.

The rail looks built into the roof and you cannot pass a hand underneath.

03

Fixed points

Threaded mounting points are hidden beneath small covers or flaps. Each vehicle needs the correct fitting kit.

Look for paired covers along the roof edge or inside the door frame.

Bare roof

There are no factory rails or visible mounting points. Protected clamp feet attach at the upper door frame.

The roof surface is plain from front to back.

Before the first journey

Your safety checklist

Check the vehicle handbook for its maximum permitted roof load.

Follow the lowest limit across the car, bars, roof box or carrier.

Distribute luggage evenly and secure it inside the roof box.

Confirm clearance for the tailgate, antenna and opening sunroof.

Recheck the feet after the first drive, then periodically and before long trips.

Know your total vehicle height before entering garages or low barriers.

Egyptian summer heat, long highways and vibration make periodic checks important. Inspect rubber pads, plastic covers and tightening before Sahel, Sokhna, Red Sea or Sinai trips.
